  • The Castle, by F. Kafka, a book review

NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT, USA, August 18, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Josef K. wandered into a county village with little planning and no set intentions. After threatening to throw him out for not producing permission papers, as luck would have it, the village authorities recognized him as the once sought-after county surveyor, a claim that temporarily boosted his standing in the village. Two assistants even came out of nowhere to help him navigate the snowy village terrain and cater to his needs.

But rather than relax and coast on his luck, K. pressed for more rights and recognition. He thought he could confront the authorities on the way they ruled their compliant peasants. It was not long before the initial break that K.’s luck fizzled, and the lists of those who despised him grew.

Despite his dwindling luck, K. was determined to visit the majestic castle from which the county elites rule the peasants. To achieve this objective, he latched on to any acquaintance who could lead him to the castle or help him meet some of the castle’s elites. For days, nothing went his way. Meeting Freida, the mistress of a powerful elite gentleman named Klamm, seemed like a perfect opportunity for the breakthrough that K. needed. In a moment of both desperation and hurried love for K., Freida left Klamm to elope with K., a wanderer whose only possession was an intense despise for authorities and the desire to confront them. With a price like Freida, many men would have quit all other distractions, but not K. He continued a maniacal effort to enter the castle, where he hoped to make his objections known to the authorities and defend himself against the negative impressions people had about him. He hardly had any time left to attend to his fiancée and nurture their new relationship.

Surprisingly to K., after losing Frieda, Klamm wouldn’t even sit down to negotiate terms of further engagement with his ex-mistress. Instead, Klamm went to a great length to avoid him. As K. pursued Klamm in desperation, he neglected the budding love he had hashed with Freida, who, meanwhile, had become vulnerable to his assistants.

Freida cried, “It is either the castle or me!” She threatened to leave K., accusing him of infidelity and jockeying with her future despite all she had sacrificed to be with him. Stubborn and self-driven, K. thought he could juggle all the balls in his hands, including Freida’s affection, effectively and simultaneously. He was wrong. A face-to-face meeting with Klamm eluded him. And in a demoralizing defeat, Jeremiah, one of K.’s assistants, grabbed Freida away from him in the same way he stole her from Klamm.

In The Castle, Kafka exposed the several conflicts that human relationships unleash. Every act in the journey of a relationship awakens new sets of deep-seated strife, doubt, and suspicion that lay cryptic in the human mind; there is no way to keep tabs on all the emotional outbreaks in ourselves or our counterparts. The Castle is a touching book written by an author who, in my mind, has no equal in this genre. It is one of the few books I have read three times. Each time, it lays open the dept and whims of human thoughts present in everyday relationships as the struggle to make ends meet under the oppression of the larger society, which only authors like Kafka can imagine and reveal.

    — Clientron Corp.
NEW TAIPEI CITY, TAIWAN, August 16, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- POS system manufacturer - Clientron lately introduced a new POS system with an innovative adjustable barcode scanner for scanning barcodes from multiple orientations. Mounted on POS systems with an adjustable hinge, this innovative adjustable barcode scanner allows cashiers to easily read and analyze barcode labels by rotating the scanner, speeding up the checkout process with precision and flexibility in noisy work environments.

Clientron understands that barcode scanners are absolutely essential peripherals for POS systems, so developing innovative multi-function peripherals can enhance the functionality of POS systems and provide better service to users. The barcode scanner is generally fixed on the POS terminal through the USB port, the angle is fixed, and the direction is limited. Therefore, it is not easy for the user to scan the barcode label accurately at one time. However, Clientron's adjustable barcode scanners allow users to adjust the scanner angle to accurately scan barcodes based on their personal usage habits about scanning angle, so users can easily scan a product once and get the correct purchase information from the barcode, speeding up overall checkout times.

A POS system with an adjustable scanner is a smart choice in any environment where fast scanning of various barcode locations is critical to day-to-day operations. Check out the official Clientron website to find the latest widescreen POS system PT2700 with an adjustable scanner to get the job done for your business in less time. It's a gripping and at times moving story of passion and devotion, complete with a happily ever after that romance readers will celebrate.

"Motorcycle club books have always intrigued me," said author Skye McNeil, "The sex appeal, the danger, the total bad-boy vibe draws me in time after time. If you’re looking for a new style of MC bad boy, look no further than my Macha MC series."

"The crisp spring air bit at his face but less intensely than it should, thanks to his bushy red beard. He zipped up his leather jacket with the Macha emblem stamped on the back and his name and role in the club on the front. For as long as he could remember, he’d been in Macha. His parents met thanks to the MC, and both he and his sister were conceived and delivered in Macha’s clubhouse. Macha was in his blood. He’d never leave the club that was his family." - from "Brewer"

  • Serial Killers and Cornish Pasties: Motts is Back with a Purloined Poinsettia

    Purloined Poinsettia is Now Available

    Author Dahlia Donovan

LGBTQIA British Cozy Mystery “Purloined Poinsettia” is Live Worldwide for Motts's Next Mystery Adventure

What sort of macabre gift will Motts find wrapped under the tree?”
    — Dahlia Donovan, Author
QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA, August 6, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Hot Tree Publishing is delighted to announce the release of Douglasville, Georgia-based author Dahlia Donovan and her latest novel “Purloined Poinsettia”, under their Tangled Tree imprint, “the darker, twisted side of Hot Tree Publishing.”

“Dahlia Donovan revisits Cornwall in her best-selling Motts Cold Case Mystery series, bringing us more from the smart and irreverent Pineapple 'Motts' Mottley. Donovan's unique blend of wit and honest humor puts a fresh spin on the cozy mystery genre,” said Tangled Tree CEO and Managing Editor, Becky Johnson. Dahlia Donovan’s best-selling Motts Cold Case Mystery series offers quintessential cozy British mysteries and all-around fun stories for readers to throw themselves into. Along the way, readers can expect to cheer for the biromantic asexual heroine, Motts, and discover the unique world she lives in.

“Purloined Poinsettia” is another entertaining tale, inviting readers to cheer on Motts and ask if she's running out of time to catch not one but two killers? "Writing in the Motts world is always like coming home. Her books flow easier than any other I’ve written. 'Purloined Poinsettia' has been a mammoth task in some ways, trying to string together all these little breadcrumbs from previous novels. I’m so thrilled with how it turned out and hope everyone enjoys it,” said best-selling author Dahlia Donovan

Murder comes knocking when a killer hunts for budding amateur detective Pineapple “Motts” Mottley in the fourth novel of the Motts Cold Case Mystery series.

“Think? I’m aware of the numerous times you’ve been perilously close to being seriously injured by cold-blooded killers.”
“Technically, aren’t all killers warm-blooded? Is it even possible for a human to have cold blood? If you put yourself in a freezer, will your blood be cold?” Motts wondered absently. “Right. Sorry. Not what you meant. Oh, wait, I have a present for you in case you don’t come by tomorrow.”
    - from “Purloined Poinsettia”

About the author: Dahlia Donovan wrote her first romance series after a crazy dream about shifters and damsels in distress. She is an autistic who prefers irreverent humor and unconventional characters and has found great happiness with her husband, her tiny dog Bacon, and her collection of books and video games. An adoptee, TCK (third culture kid), and survivor of childhood abuse, Dahlia uses a pen name to avoid her technically unsavvy adoptive family. Her story is all her own, though. Quinn is adept at the written word as he is at the spoken word with all his theatrical ventures. Reading this collection you can almost hear the gentle strains of an operatic aria in the Italian parts and musicality is not absent in the other parts. "organized labor" is a wonderful book. Specific and powerful. Others evoke old New York , the 1913 Paterson strike, and also issues we face today in the world since 9/11". Davidson Garrett

We all know this by now.

Paul Krugman could propose alternative economic strategies to end this charade. Emma Goldman said: "It's the organized violence at the top, that creates the disorganized violence at the bottom." It is truer now more than a century ago.

    Monuments essay:

    danielpquinn684 | Newark, NJ 6/25/20

This is a wildly complex question, BUT history must be part of all community outreach or we will learn nothing. Locally, there is a restored version of Gustav Bourglan's Founders Monument now on the grounds of NJPAC in Newark.

All the Founder's names were wasps but they were memorialized a century ago by the dominant population of Newark at that time.

There are no Irish, Italian, German, Black or Jewish founders of Newark honored in this "monument". Old money still dominates so much of our culture. What do we do now as reparation for all immigrants and residents of Newark when they were omitted and now ?

The best scientific explanation is always one that verifiably incorporates and synthesizes all the relevant existing data gathered so far, past, and present.

0.01% error chances count in science, often proving to be more helpful than drawing 99.99% conclusions. In fact, major errors in science are often learned initially by way of 0.01% chances of error.”
    — Mohammad H. Tamdgidi, Ph.D., Sociologist and Report Author
GREATER BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, UNITED STATES, August 2, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Those who have been interested in the Somerton Man (TSM) case may find an article newly posted at OKCIR (also readable below in the scrollable section of this press release) by sociologist Mohammad H. Tamdgidi, Ph.D., helpful in further investigating the case. Tamdgidi is the author of OKCIR’s recently published "Tamám Shud: How the Somerton Man's Last Dance for a Lasting Life Was Decoded — Omar Khayyam Center Research Report" (Okcir Press, 2021). The report is freely readable online.

According to Tamdgidi, "the new findings about TSM, identifying him as Carl ‘Charles’ Webb with 99.99% certitude, certainly raise new hopes and further venues for exploration, but at the same time add new questions about and challenges for interpreting previously collected data, ones that are still relevant and must also be explained."

0.01% error chances actually count in science, often proving to be more helpful than drawing 99.99% conclusions. In fact, major errors in science are often learned initially by way of unexpected 0.01% chances of error. Something minor is found not to quite fit a story initially; what seems logical at first proves not to be so upon further reflection. It is for this reason that those offering new scientific propositions usually share all the details of their new findings in advance and refrain from drawing final conclusions, to make it possible for others to also judge for themselves the soundness of any ideas that have been offered as solutions to longstanding puzzles.

Although science aspires to be value neutral, Tamdgidi write, it can never be so without allowing for open and self-reflective acknowledgment of biases in investigators’ work. DNA study results and their interpretations are not purely physical facts or findings but result from human conducted studies and are always explored amid personal and institutional settings that are influenced by human values, interests, biases, and errors.

It is of course always wonderful to make breakthroughs in solving puzzles such as the Somerton Man case, Tamdgidi writes. However, seventy plus years of waiting would be better served by a more cautious and less rushed drawing of conclusions. Ultimately, this case is privately about a person, his relatives and friends, and their characters and lives, and publicly about Australia and how it handles its longstanding unsolved cases. Human beings are much more complicated than what may appear in a newspaper ad or divorce filing. Those who have wished to put to rest the story of the Somerton Man's death must obviously care about returning him back to dust with dignity to the extent his life had and deserved.

There is a choice here, for example, of reburying TSM as a gambler or as a thoughtful poet who was depressed about having lost many loved ones suddenly to old age or a world war, reflecting on the meaning of life amid a marriage gone sour while facing a terminal illness. The best scientific explanation, in the author's view, is always one that verifiably incorporates and synthesizes all the relevant existing data gathered so far, past, and present, and refrains from arbitrarily picking and choosing some clues or coincidences at the cost of others simply because new conclusions help gloss over past interpretive failures.

Tamdgidi's posted article offers some points to consider while investigating and interpreting the information being newly reported and analyzed. It first considers the possibility that Carl 'Charles' Webb may not be the Somerton Man. It then considers the second possibility that the two may be the same person.

In Tamdgidi's previously published 2021 report, the Somerton Man's code was deciphered to be a suicide note, written in the poetic form of a quatrain composed as a transliteration from Arabic, in the style of "Tamám Shud." The torn-out piece found in his fob pocket basically served as a key to the transliterated nature of the code found on the back of the book from which it had been torn. The Somerton Man was thus revealed to be poetically inclined, creatively orchestrating his tragic suicide facing a terminal illness as a way of leaving a lasting trace in public memory, having been inspired by the enduring example of Omar Khayyam's poetry.

Tamdgidi specializes in exploring and advancing the sociological imagination in comparative cultural and global/world-historical frameworks. The sociological imagination, a term coined by the noted American sociologist C. Wright Mills in 1959, is a mode of inquiry in sociology centering on the idea that human life can be best understood by way of exploring how personal and private troubles of individuals and the public issues of their times relate to one another. The Somerton Man case provides a tragic, yet fascinating, window for the cultivation of our sociological imaginations.

Kimberly Adams shows the charm of wishes in book Five Mile Charlie: A Special Pony for Carly at Beijing Book Fair 2022

Overall, this book is a fun, delightful read for young readers. It would be a wonderful addition to a classroom or home collection.”
    — Gretchen Hansen from The US Review of Books
LOS ANGELES, UNITED STATES, August 1, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Practicing attorney Kimberly Adams pens the secret magic of wishes in the first installment of her Five Mile Charlie book series entitled Five Mile Charlie: A Special Pony for Carly.

The book, which is currently released on Amazon and Barnes & Noble and will be on display to the public at Beijing Book Fair 2002 from August 24-27, 2022, holds on to the premise that wishes don’t always come true the way we want them to—but they can be brought to life in a totally different way!

This 38-paged fantasy children’s book is a charming tale about Carly, a sweet young girl who lives on a farm in Oklahoma named Five Mile. She has always wanted to be a pony because she loves animals so much. Nora, the magical queen bee of the valley, has heard of Carly’s wish and has sent out scout bees in search of a pony. The moment Carly sees the strange new animal in her field - a llama, she falls head over heels in love with it. Despite Charlie's llama status, she and Charlie hit it up right away.

The author, Atty. Adams crafted the idea of centering the story set in her own home state Oklahoma where she also served as the municipal judge.

After the death of her pet llama, Charlie, Kimberly Adams developed an interest in writing fiction. Kim's loss of Charlie, with whom she had shared an unbreakable bond, prompted her to pen a children's book series in his honor, titled Five Mile Charlie.

Watch the teaser for Five Mile Charlie: A Special Pony for Carly now!

The book will be on display at Beijing Book Fair in Beijing, China from August 24-27, 2022, and is available in both Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

SIDELINED FROM 1966 MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT SINGER BOB DYLAN PROMPTED BY EX-BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON TO STAR AT CONCERT FOR BANGLA DESH CHARITY EVENT 51 YEARS AGO

ATLANTA, GEORGIA, UNITED STATES, July 31, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Fifty one years ago Bob Dylan made his first live appearance anywhere in two years. The event took place during ex-Beatle George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh for charity at Madison Square Garden between two simultaneous shows on August 1, 1971.

Historian Richard Warren Lipack is releasing an image of Bob Dylan moments before Dylan's amazing comeback to the concert stage in 1971. The image was recently discovered while examining old original 35mm color transparency outtakes the photographer took during the concert 51 years ago.

Beside this, historian Lipack made a half hour long videotape with sound of the afternoon NYC concert show, for which a frame (of three deposited on Wikimedia Commons) from that video can be found on the Wikipedia and Wikiwand entries for the Concert. Despite this, the Estate of George Harrison, and son Dhani Harrison, have made no effort to reach out to learn more about this historic videotape: the only videotape of the Concert in existence. Dhani Harrison, the manager for Beatle George Harrison's estate, was born in 1978, exactly seven years later to the day of his father's 1971 concert's August 1st time stamp. Some questions are raised as to the son's veracity in the honoring of his father's legacy based on Harrison's seemingly cosmic Bangla Desh Concert dated incarnation as opposed to Beatle John Lennon's son Sean Lennon's caesarian section birth by Yoko Ono on John Lennon's October 9th birthday in 1975.

This event also marked the return of George Harrison to the stage in a live concert after the Beatles last paid public performance at Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 29, 1966 and following the Beatles' 1970 Break-up.

Aside from these works author and historian Lipack owns and controls the copyrights to almost 500 behind-the-scenes negatives and images of the 1966 Beatles last concert tour, including the last live Beatles paid public performance ever - occurring at Candlestick Park described above. The photograph archive trove also includes images of the Original Yellow Submarine that inspired the 1968 release of the Beatles movie The Yellow Submarine two years later.

Most of the 1966 images were taken by the long defunct Datebook magazine, who travelled on tour with the Beatles in 1965 and 1966, and which was the magazine that lit the bonfire against Beatle John Lennon's Beatles "more popular than Jesus" statement of 1966.

Author Lipack was associated closely with Beatles manager Brian Epstein's mother Queenie and brother Clive Epstein in the late 1970's and early 1980's, and decided to release this important never before seen Dylan image for the historical record, as well as for fans of Bob Dylan, and for Bob Dylan himself.

The accompanying photo shows the great Dylan just before he mounted the performance stage at the Concert for Bangla Desh on August 1, 1971. This photo marks a 'first of its kind' in the fifty-one years since the concert was mounted.

Convincing Dylan of the significance of performing at the Concert for Bangla Desh, George Harrison persuaded Dylan to come out of semi-retirement to play classics that he hadn’t performed in years.

A few years before the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh, Dylan was knocked out of commission for a half a decade following a motorcycle accident in 1966 that placed him into semi-retirement. And his legend grew. George Harrison was in the same boat of sorts following The Beatles' demise as a live act when they mounted the stage for their final live concert performance at Candlestick Park, San Francisco on August 29, 1966, which author Lipack published in his 1996 book: Epoch Moments and Secrets - John Lennon and the Beatles at the Mirror of Man's Destiny.

Dylan’s August 1, 1971 first-show afternoon comeback performance should have been flawed but instead he appeared magically on stage during the first show that day - during the afternoon show - just after this moment shown here - going on and gallantly charging forward with his music prowess as great as ever before 40,000 concert attendees in this and the later evening show.

Dylan was backed by just Harrison, piano man Leon Russell - who took up to playing Klaus Voormann's Fender Precision bass, and by former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr pacing steadfast on the tambourine. Dylan played five of his decade-defining songs from the 1960s. Dylan would take "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall", "Blowin' in the Wind", "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry", "Love Minus Zero/No Limit" and "Just Like a Woman" to their highest levels ever.

George Harrison’s "Concert For Bangladesh" became the most aggressive turning point in popular culture at the time, marking the first ever mounted star-studded charity event that would become both the model as well as setting a precedent for future charitable sponsoring concert events.

With the former Beatles guitarist’s original noble initiative employed to summon Bob Dylan out of seclusion and back into the limelight, the action allowed for Dylan to effectively round out and downright steal the show.

The photograph just discovered in the archives of historian Richard Warren Lipack after 51 years is presented here for the first time ever to commemorate the active work singer Bob Dylan has generated within the realms of music and art even to this day, fifty one years after his August 1, 1971 come back appearance. Shown as the sixth person from the left Dylan stands in his jeans jacket patiently waiting in the wings clutching his guitar with his back to the camera.

This is all as ex-Beatle George Harrison in the red dress shirt discusses last minute sound details with a technician just a few feet back away from Dylan, just before Dylan's appearance. The fourth person from the left in the image recognizes Dylan and stares down at the great singer in apparent astonishment and amazement captured here.

The ENTITLE Starter Kit makes it very easy for artists, galleries to create a digital certificate of authenticity supported by Infineon chipset and blockchain.

ARTRACX IS looking forward to partnering with galleries, museum and bookstores for distribution, as well as mobile carriers and MVNOs around the world.”
    — DANIEL CHUN
HONG KONG, CHINA, August 1, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ -- ARTRACX LAUNCHES NEW BLOCKCHAIN-BASED CHIPSET, VERIFIABLE CREDENTIAL AND DIGITAL CERTIFICATES FOR ART AUTHENTICATION - AS PREPAID PACKAGE

ART GROUP LIMITED (Hong Kong) is proud to announce the product launch of the ARTRACX Curator platform together with ENTITLE App and ENTITLE Starter kit for artists, art dealers, galleries to create digital identities in fine art and collectibles for proper IP protection and authentication. Intellectual property theft, outright plagiarism and copyrights infringement are enemies to all creators around the world. The art industry has also given breathing room to bad actors that undermine the artists’ rights and the art stakeholders' interests. This new online platform, mobile app, blockchain and smart chipsets combine together as a prepaid package (much like prepaid SIM) solution to tackle this problem by creating a blockchain-based chipset-supported digital identity for each artwork using Decentralized ID (DID) and Verifiable Credential (VC) endorsed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

ARTRACX Curator and Entitle App supports Infineon high-security SECORA™ Blockchain chipsets to hold the cryptographic private key for secured authentication and provenance tracking. The smart chips double as the digital Certificate of Authenticity with immutable records of proof - once activated and linked to an artwork. Artwork's metadata stored in the Curator will now be hashed and kept on the blockchain's ledger with a universal and unique digital identity assigned to the artwork.

ARTRACX Curator platform provides a suite of free services including Certificate of Authenticity, Catalog management, Provenance, Exhibition history and even wall labels generation. In future, the platform will offer an online auction marketplace, digital viewing room and native web conferencing tool for worldwide artists, collectors, and art dealers to meet and do businesses.

“With Hong Kong developing itself as both an IP hub and an art hub, we are building this solution as a Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) platform that extends our ten-year’s experience in OpenHeart digital auctions serving the charity sector to become an online art marketplace offering value-added identity and transactional services. Our ethos is to offer the art ecosystem a secured exchange to track, trace and trade easily hence calling this project ARTRACX. We are looking forward to partnering with galleries, museum and bookstores for distribution, as well as mobile carriers and MVNOs around the world to also offer SIM cards packaged with our ENTITLE starter kit to enhance the KYC process." said Mr. Daniel Chun, CEO of Art Group Limited.

Infineon has appointed Art Group Limited as an associate partner and according to Ms. Alison Liu, Senior Marketing Manager of Infineon Greater China Region - “We are really excited about the developments in the art, collectibles and luxury market segment and Art Group’s team had understood the problem well and have executed and developed the solution. The anti-counterfeit market worldwide in the art, collectibles and luxury segment will continue to be an important market segment for us. To effectively curtail counterfeiting and rights infringements, there will be a need for the art ecosystem to also partake and adopt the use of latest technology solution like ARTRACX"

The ENTITLE Starter Kit consists of both Smart Chip Labels and Smart Card Premium (with Infineon SECORA™ Blockchain chipset) which can be activated using Near-Field Communication (NFC) protocol with a smartphone and the ENTITLE App. The Smart Chip Label is best suited for creating digital IDs for reprints while the Smart Card Premium is best suited for authenticating the original artwork. The ENTITLE App allows users (artists, collectors, art dealers, gallery and museum managers) to easily activate and link the artwork without the need to learn and understand blockchain, wallet, gas fee, cryptography and concepts like DID and VC. The Entitle Starter Kit is available online at https://shop.artracx.com/ for USD 49. The ENTITLE APP will also be available for download at the App Store for iOS.
